Couples

Therapy

Couples therapy is great for relationships at any stage; dating, engaged or married. As a marriage and family therapist, I am trained to attend to your unique experiences as a couple. Trained in Gottman Couples Therapy, I look at the foundation of your relationship, and how you communicate about expectations, values, and everyday things so that you can disarm some of the negative patterns you currently have.

Topics I address:

  • Premarital Counseling

  • Communication problems

  • Relationship Contracting

  • Strengthening the marriage

  • Building a stronger foundation for marriage.

  • Infidelity

  • Intimacy

  • Sex therapy

  • Codependency

  • Building trust

  • Not sure if its time for a separation

  • healing old wounds

  • Regaining a sense of excitement after being married for years

  • Building the couple relationship after the children have left the house

Topics I do not address:

  • Domestic Violence: Studies have shown that couples therapy is not beneficial for couples that have ACTIVE domestic violence especially because it can create safety issues. As such, if I know that you are in an active domestic violence relationship, I will refer you for individual therapy instead.

Recommendation

  • I recommend that if you are considering couples therapy you should also start individual therapy. My client is the couple in couples therapy, so things that are individual issues should be worked on before or concurrently when doing couples therapy.

The cost for couples therapy is $200. Please note that couples therapy is NOT generally covered by health insurance plans.
