Therapy

Being in a Black family in America is tough! We love hard and we try to protect. Sometimes, that very need to protect creates a tough shell that causes us to not talk about our emotions with our partners, create very rigid boundaries with our kids, and at times causes us to say things that are hurtful because that's how the world treats us. Sometimes you are equipped to manage your relationships with your families, and sometimes you're just not. Oftentimes, you just need help! Good News! I am here to help you navigate this journey of being a wife, a husband, a mother, and a father while dealing with the external challenges of being Black in America. You're here and that's the first step!

I am here to help you navigate whatever transition(s) you are going through! Along with education, specific techniques, and the necessary tools, we will work together to address your specific needs with long-lasting solutions.

Here are some issues I treat in Family Therapy

  • Relational Issues

  • Parent Training

  • Co-Parenting

  • Inter-Generational Problems

  • Codependency

  • Boundaries

  • Stressful events that put a strain on the family

  • Managing divorce as a family

  • Chronic/Terminal Illness in the family

  • Substance use in the family

  • Interpersonal conflict

  • Communication problems

  • Behavioral problems in children and adolescents

Please note that I DO NOT see children by themselves as most behavioral problems that a child displays are often a symptom of a larger problem. As a result, I will look at the family dynamics and explore recent changes and current parenting styles to address the current problems.  The only time I see children by themselves is when I do trauma work, and even with those sessions, half of the time is with the child and a parent or caregiver they trust will be asked to join for the other half.

The cost of a 60-minute family therapy session is $200.
