Solution Focused Therapy

As a Black person, a Black family, or a Black couple, how many times have you been told that you are not good enough, incapable of doing better, being better, or going somewhere? No wonder you are struggling to believe in your potential and find a solution to your problems. The crazy thing is I'll make a case that you had the solution to your problems the whole time. As a solution-focused therapist I draw from your strengths to help you address the challenges in your life, whether it's an individual, couple, or marital problem, I got you! 

What should you expect in my sessions? You should expect me to get you to set your goals for treatment, get ready to dig deep into your past to draw out your strengths. Then, the real work begins. Get ready to get real in therapy so that you can be your authentic self, so you can show up for yourself and your loved ones every day. You are valuable, and my challenge is to get you to know and believe it too!

Gottman Method for Couples

Historically, Black families were set up for failure, starting as far back as slavery. As a matter of fact, we have learned to adopt a negative communication pattern that minimizes our partners and our own desires in the family because Black families have historically been devalued. Through the Gottman Method, couples therapy will disarm conflicting verbal communication, increase intimacy, respect, and affection, remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy in conflicting situations, and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship. I will also draw from your strengths as a couple as that adds to your value and your foundation of your relationship.
