I am Dr. Lastenia Francis, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) and Founder of Meaningful Emotion Therapy PLLC. I was first drawn to the MFT field because I wanted to strengthen BIPOC families, with a focus on the Black experience. As a systemic thinker, I approach your challenges holistically, understanding that problems rarely exist in isolation, which is why I often encourage the whole family to participate in our sessions, allowing us to uncover the deeper dynamics and understand how challenges started and continue to persist. With extensive training in family systems therapy and trauma treatment modalities, I integrate these approaches with a focus on Narrative Therapy. I believe that the stories we tell ourselves shape our reality. By re-authoring these stories, we can create new paths to healing and growth. In this process, I guide you in identifying your strengths as an individual and as a family because it is through these strengths that you will find solutions to your challenges. As Black people, we come from a legacy of resilience. My role is to help you reconnect with that resilience — to remind you of the strength within you and your community. Together, we’ll work to uncover how these strengths can guide how you treat yourself, interact with others, and approach the difficulties you encounter.
